The Podcast - Season 1-4

Series Four - Just the Two of Us

Episode 30:

For this month's episode, I am joined by Jeff Beacham, The Manufacturer's Recruiter to talk about what is happening in the world of business and how having strong relationships is the foundation to seeing everyone through these difficult times.

Episode 29:

We're kicking off the New year thinking about all the current challenges affecting leaders and business right now which look like they are going to continue to be hot topics for 2023.

There is lots to talk about for sure.

Episode 28:

With the uncertainty, and what appears to be the chaotic world around us, we talk about Elon Musk & Twitter, whether using command and control as a leadership style is ever acceptable and what is going on in the Jungle.

A bit of a winding road to conclude, having regular check-in conversations, and being the best version of yourself, is probably the approach to adopt at the moment.

Episode 27:

After a break for the summer, Just the Two of Us is back with special guest, Patricia Colden from ColdenHR.

In this episode, we talk about the current trends affecting organisations, HR and leaders, including agility and engagement, and how you might tackle them to match the expectations of the employee with those of the employer

Series Three - Just the Two of Us

Episode 26:

Joined by another amazing guest, Alison Thorogood, we discuss the desire to talk about physical and mental health with parity, the impact great leadership can have, and share ideas on how to create the environment to promote wellbeing.

Episode 25:

Joined by our special guest, Helen Hughes, we discuss the top five "hot topics" for leadership with a focus around Employee Wellbeing, which occupies the number one spot.

Episode 24:

This episode starts with a catch-up between the two of us, before talking through the complexity of Relationship Management, the fourth element within Daniel Goleman's model of emotional intelligence.

Episode 23:

Our conversation around emotional intelligence continues with a focus on the self-management element. We share a couple of our experiences where the impact was very different to the intention, because the relationship didn't exist and consider how important it is to simply ask "is this working for you?"

Episode 22:

Continuing on from our conversation in the last episode, we dig deeper into self-awareness, one of the elements of emotional intelligence. Recognising our impact on others, our strengths and weaknesses and confidence to ask the questions.

Episode 21:

After updating each other on our volunteering experiences, we're starting the conversation about emotional intelligence. What it is, what works for different people and broadening the term "managing" to keep ourselves human.

Episode 20:

Our first podcast of 2022 with special guest Gareth Griffiths. Kellie and I have spent a fair bit of time talking about hybrid working and flexibility so we thought it was high time we invited someone who has experienced these ways of working for their entire career and would consider them the norm. Gareth shares just how he does it, pandemic tweaks and all.

Episode 19:

In our final episode of 2021, Kellie and I take the opportunity to summarise some of the conversations we've had over the last two years, including living in the virtual world, hybrid working and waning resilience.

Episode 18:

With our special guest, Jeff Beacham, from Authentica Resourcing, we discuss the Great Resignation. Is it truly happening and what are the effects? Our conversation includes everything from the skills gap in the UK through to changing careers or sectors and inclusion. We conclude the subject is complex (as always) but in this case can be helped by simply having a conversation.

Episode 17:

We're back after the summer with a new episode where we again tackle the ongoing discussion around "hybrid working". There is no easy solution but we do conclude that organisations should run a trial to see how it works for them if they aren't sure about the implications.

Episode 16:

Straight down to business in this episode where we tackle the complicated subject of Hybrid Working. We raise more questions than we answer and definitely don't have the solution but maybe listening will help you think through the complexities of a new way of working.

Episode 15:

A special episode where we are joined by Giles Owen, Operations Director at Hansgrohe UK. Giles shares the trials and tribulations he has experienced over the last 12 months dealing with the pandemic and Brexit, leaders responsibility when making decisions and how Hansgrohe UK are working hard to keep hold of the good work practices that have happened as a result of lockdown while returning to some sense of normal.

Episode 14:

This month's episode is all about the civil case bought against the Post Office which reached it's conclusion this week. Kellie and I think about how trust and culture showed up to create the situation in the first place.

Episode 13:

This is Episode 13 of Just the Two of Us and this month we have a discussion about employee wellbeing; what should be organisations, leaders and individual responsibilities?

Episode 12:

This month we are talking about how we can measure the impact of virtual learning against the expectations of both learners and their businesses and the challenges of self-care with a nod to imposter syndrome.

Episode 11:

Kellie and I are back together for 2021 and in this episode we are talking about the impact on us working in the virtual world...with quite different perspectives.

Episode 10:

Episode ten will be the last episode of 2020 and we finally get around to discussing the pandemic, it's effect on ours and others lives and mental health.

Episode 9:

This latest episode of Just the Two of Us explores the complexities of asking for help. Why we should, why we don't and how we can role model the behaviour as leaders.

Episode 8:

This episode has Kellie and I pondering the new COVID-19 rules and debate the reasons why people behave in the way they do. We share our own experiences during the pandemic and make parallels to the business world.

Episode 7:

In this weeks episode of Just the Two of Us, Kellie and I reflect on how culture can impact how you behave as a leader, the challenges culture brings to being an external consultant and inevitably, COVID-19

Episode 6:

This week, we discuss the virtues of face to face learning versus the virtual classroom along with our thoughts on companies committing fraud using the furlough scheme. This, of course then leads us to ethics and integrity at both an organisational level and a personal one.

Episode 5:

In episode 5, Kellie gets some frustrations off her chest about working in the virtual world, I'm excited about delivering my first face to face workshop since February and we consider what you might do as a leader if you know a member of your team is flouting the rules of Covid-19 in their own time.

Episode 4:

Episode 4 is all about trust and once again how complex a subject it is to understand. Kellie and I talk about our experience as boss & employee and discover how different our own perspectives are.

Episode 3:

In episode 3, Kellie & I discuss holidays and hangovers, working flexibly and a little bit about the new world of virtual learning.

Episode 2:

In this episode, Kellie and I catch up on our week, (I made it to the hairdressers - very happy!), discuss Leadership - Plain and Simple by Steve Radcliffe and apply one of his models to how leaders might be feeling right now.

Episode 1:

Join me, Kate Stranks and Kellie Sanders for the first episode of our new podcast series "Just the Two of Us". Kellie and I pick a topic each week and talk about it's relevance and impact on leadership. This week we are talking about self-awareness and the complexities of trying to understand it.

Series Two

Every month, I will be speaking to people who are already leaders and to those who are aspiring to be, to get their views on how leadership is changing in the world of business, today and in the future.
In the final episode of Series Two, The Podcast, I am talking to Kellie Sanders, a great friend of mine both professionally and personally. We discuss how culture has changed over the years, expectations of people in their work choices and Kellie’s terrible experience in the woods!
In the third episode of series two, I decided to ask my daughter her expectations of leaders as she will be entering the workforce very soon. It's an interesting listen and I am extremely proud to hear her thoughts.

Recorded just before lockdown, my guest Amy Mercer shares her thoughts on leadership now and in the future and maybe the demise of office space as we know it. It seems her prediction might come true sooner than we thought.

In this series I am talking to leaders at the beginning of their careers, finding out what their expectations are of their current leaders and how they want to lead. My first guest is Jade Myall and I discover who her role models are and her hopes and aspirations for the future.
